Is Supergoop’s Bright-Eyed 100% Mineral Eye Cream SPF 40 up to protecting your under-eyes from UV rays? We tell you our thoughts.

Sunscreen should undoubtedly be the first step of your skincare routine. But when you’re protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, does that extend to your delicate eye area? The eye area is a commonly neglected area when it comes to sun care. Plus, the products we pat on maybe too much on our thin eye area, which can lead to milia (those tiny white bumps), dryness and irritation. So how can we protect our under-eye area from UV rays without weighing them down?

The answer came in the form of a yellow-capped cylinder, straight from one of BEAUBIT’s favourite SPF brands, Supergoop. The brand’s Bright-Eyed 100% Mineral Eye Cream SPF 40 (SGD55) is a 100% zinc oxide eye cream, which claims to help protect from UV rays and blue light and instantly brighten the under-eye area. It’s even packed with all sorts of skincare goodness—caffeine for puffiness, green tea extract for free radical protection, and wild butterfly ginger flower for protection against blue light. 

At first pump, you’ll notice the consistency is a bit like a mousse—thicker than you’d expect, but not chalky. Thanks to its slightly pinkish tint, one pump visibly brightened my under-eyes. Its coverage isn’t high enough to completely conceal, but it does serve as a good primer for concealer and doesn’t leave an unsightly white cast. And don’t worry about concealer piling on it—once it dries, it stays in place and your makeup won’t slip and slide on top.

The best part is, the eye cream doesn’t irritate my eyes even when I apply it onto the lids (we also really love its light tropical scent).

So will I keep using it? I think the answer is undoubtedly yes. This will be what we’ll be reaching for as a daytime eye cream for a long time coming.

How to use

Apply generously and evenly around the eye area 15 minutes before sun exposure, gently blending in with your ring finger.
