Clean skin is happy skin

“Clean skin equals a happy face,” says DJ Ginette Chittick, 43, who is also a visual artist, musician and lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts. “I really like the Nars Aqua-infused Makeup Removing Water, it is just magical.”

In the morning, she makes sure to start with a clean, fresh face. She washes her face with a gentle cleanser and pats on serum, before spraying a fine mist of the Pixi Skintreats Hydrating Milky Mist with Hyaluronic Acid & Black Oat (SGD24), priming her face for makeup. After that, a dash of Clinique’s Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector (SGD105) to help with pigmentation, and seal it off with some sunscreen— Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF50 PA++++ (SGD56).

Known for her bright lips, Ginette never goes anywhere without a good lipstick in her bag. Her current favourites are MAC Cosmetics’ Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Rich & Restless (SGD39) and YSL Beauty’s Rouge Pur Couture The Slim in Rouge Extravagant (SGD55). “Those shades really puts a pop of colour on my face,” says Ginette.

Ginette’s beauty must-haves: Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF50 PA++++ (SGD56), Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector (SGD77), Benefit Roller Liner Liquid Eyeliner (SGD39)

Use multi-tasking products

With three children and a hectic day schedule, Dahlia Mohd, 39, looks to multi-functional and highly efficient products to help care for her skin. “I use RE:ERTH’s Clarifying Cleanser (SGD70) and Hydrating Gel Moisturizer (SGD85) in the morning,” says the co-founder of En Pointe & Co, a Singapore-based multi-labels boutique championing regional designers. “After that, I spray on some Molecular Saviour Probiotics Repair Mist (SGD90) from Allies of Skin and slather on some sunscreen.”

Other products to look out for, Dahlia suggests, are ones you can use while you’re getting in some beauty sleep. “I sleep with a facial oil, like Kora Organics’ Noni Glow Face Oil (SGD87), or a leave-on mask, like the Allies of Skin Promise Keeper Blemish Facial (SGD128), to moisturize and clarify my skin.”

When asked on a skincare tip: “Drink lots of water — 3 litres or more daily! — and always use sunscreen!”

Dahlia’s beauty must-haves: RE:ERTH Multi-Targeted Elixir (SGD108), MAC Studio Fix Complete Coverage Cushion Compact SPF 50/PA++++ (SGD63)

Sunscreen always

It’s not so much a skincare secret as it is a reminder— “Sunscreen always!” prompts Jaime Lee, co-founder and creative director of local lifestyle and stationery brand The Paper Bunny.

Her morning routine on the go consists of the basics: Skin Inc Customizable Serum (starting from SGD68), the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer (SGD89) — which works well for her dry-combination skin type — and finally, her sunscreen of choice, the Est.Lab Sunshield SPF50 *** (SGD96). After that, she fills in her brows and she’s good to go.

And another reminder from Jaime: “I believe that self-care in all ways is important for mental and physical well-being.” Looking good and sticking to your skincare regime is important, but self-care is more than just keeping your skin looking good. “Confidence is the best beauty booster,” says the 34-year-old.

Jaime’s beauty must-have: IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream SPF 50 (SGD62)
