How To: Reset & Refresh Your Skin Post-Holiday

It’s true that our skin takes a beating during the festive season. Rich foods, abundant alcohol and late nights… and the skin is very telling. But instead of renouncing all the good food and holiday fun, why not prepare and prevent any skin irritation, so you can freely enjoy your holidays without worrying about breakouts?

Here, scroll down for our ultimate post-holiday skin refresh plan.

1. Drink up!

Holiday foods tend to be sodium- and fat-laden, which although delicious, isn’t very good for you. So in between the cookies and the Christmas ham, remember to hydrate. Water is absolutely vital for clear, smooth skin.

It’s also important to hydrate if you’ve been drinking—alcohol has a tendency to dehydrate the skin. You can also try to eat more foods that have high water content, like apricots, blueberries, oranges, cucumbers and tomatoes. These will help rehydrate your body as well.

2. Exfoliate.

Once you’ve taken care of what’s going on inside, it’s time to focus on the outside. If your skin is looking rather dull from lack of sleep, a little exfoliation is just what you need.

3. Soak up antioxidants.

Antioxidants are not just great for your health, they’re great for your skin too. They protect the skin by limiting free radical production, which can damage the skin.

4. Moisturize well.

An important step in refreshing that post-holiday skin is a good moisturizer to lock in all the skincare goodness. If your skin is on the oilier side, you can also opt for a sleeping mask and skip the moisturizer.

5. Depuff with beauty tools.

The key here is to reverse or prevent any swelling in the face (which tends to happen when you eat too much salty food) so having a cold compress, like a beauty roller, will come in handy. Store your roller in the fridge to keep it cool. You can also dab your eye cream and use a tool before bed to prevent any swelling around the eyes.

So go ahead, have fun and indulge a little this holiday, then bounce back and reset your skin with these beauty tips and picks!
