Janesuda: Beauty Rituals & Championing Local Artisans Through Fashion
Thai actress and fashion designer Janesuda Parnto speaks to BEAUBIT about her passion for fashion, her beauty ritual, and what’s next for Janesuda.

Bangkok-based actress, host and fashion designer Janesuda Parnto (@janesuda) started her career in the entertainment industry as an MTV VJ. She then got into acting the Thai way—through soap operas.
Amidst being a devoted mother of two and dedicating herself full-time to running her celebrity-loved eponymous line, the Thai-American talks to us about her passion for fashion and beauty rituals.

What ignited your love of fashion and design?
It was never a ‘love at first sight’ kind of thing; I feel like it always been a part of me.
When I was 17, I started making my own T-shirts. I wanted the perfect T-shirt to wear — something with a great pattern and quality fabric. Since I couldn’t find any, I started making my own. I searched tirelessly for the right fabric and then scouted factories in the suburbs near where I lived. The line expanded further into a full collection a few years later.
How would you describe your style?
Delicate, flowy, effortless.

What is the most important issue facing the fashion industry today— and why?
The retail landscape has changed dramatically due to COVID-19. Season cycles are most likely to change too. The meaning of luxury will also be altered as a result of all this.
“The most important thing to remember for the industry and designers is to stay true to your essence amidst these critical changes.”
Are there any challenges juggling between business, motherhood and marriage?
Time is definitely a challenge; I just try my the best in all these different aspects.

Beauty in three words:
Beauty is everywhere.
What’s your typical skincare ritual?
I soak my face in ice-cold water every morning before I put on any skincare. Then La Mer’s Treatment Lotion (SGD225) goes on and Dr Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum (SGD410), before finishing off with La Mer’s The Concentrate (SGD820) and The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream (SGD300).
In the evening I do the same, except switching to La Mer’s The Moisturizing Soft Cream (SGD510) and the Moisturizing Renewal Cream Supreme (SGD289.95) from RéVive.

What are your goals in the future? What’s next for Janesuda?
To continue refining our expertise and deliver unique resort-wear collections.
For the past couple of years, we began working with local communities and craftsmen in developing our evolving aesthetic. We hope to continue championing the essence of Thailand through our designs and fabric. I believe that is what makes us unique.
