Fiona Fussi: Barefaced Beauty & Multi-Masking

BEAUBIT catches up with Singaporean model Fiona Fussi on her modelling and acting career, and all things beauty.

Images shot at The Iveria by Ove, Singapore

Born to an Austrian father and Hong Kong-Chinese mother, Fiona Fussi (@fionafussi) is one of Singapore’s most well-known models. Fiona had her big break at 15 years old when she won the Elite Model Look Singapore competition in 2011. Since then, she has walked the runway internationally and modelled for brands like Chanel, Lancôme and Fendi.

We sit down to chat with the 24-year-old on how she juggles her modelling and acting career, and her beauty routine.

What’s your story? Where did you grow up and what do you do now?

I am half Austrian and half Hong Kong-Chinese, and I grew up in Singapore. I’m an international model and actress.

You’re managing an acting career, on top of modelling. How do you juggle between your career and your interests?

I have many things that I love — if anything there’s just not enough hours in a day! (laughs) But I model and act, so I learnt to balance the two. If I have international shoots that I need to travel for, I will make sure to not take up any new shows. If there is a project I am very interested in, it’s important for me to commit to it. It’s a balancing act.

What has been a career highlight for you?

Being the first Asian model in Chanel’s global makeup tutorials has definitely been a highlight. Others would include shooting global campaigns for brands like Lancome, Charlotte Tilbury and Clarins.

What is the most important piece of advice you have ever received?

Something that I always try to keep in mind is that I can’t do everything (laughs). I am the type of person who wants to do everything and anything and will beat myself up about it if I can’t. My mother had to remind me that we only have 2 hands and there’s only so much we can pick up. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to do as much as possible, but there’s no sense in blaming or criticising yourself for not being able to.

So, what does your daily skincare ritual look like?

I try to keep it relatively simple because I want to be fast. I always remove makeup if I have any, cleanse, tone, then apply serum, moisturiser and face oil.

What is your favourite beauty activity to indulge yourself in?

Once a week I dedicate time after a shower to use different face masks. I love multi-masking because I get to do so much in a limited amount of time — a mask for exfoliating, one for brightening and one for moisturizing.

When do you feel most beautiful?

I’m working on feeling beautiful when I’m barefaced, but right now, I feel most beautiful just before sunset, during golden hour.

What are your hopes for the year ahead?

I hope to take on more projects locally and internationally in modelling and acting that can excite me and challenge me. And my hopes for the world is that whatever happened in 2020 will help us realise that we are in fact, all connected to each other and it is within our power to make the world a better place.
