Cheryl Wong on Sensitive Skin Faves & The Best Hair Oil

Singaporean content creator Cheryl Wong shares her sensitive skin faves and her all-time favourite hair oil to maintain her thick and luscious locks.

Cheryl Wong has always known she would work in the creative industry; the Singaporean content creator loved fashion and other creative pursuits ever since she was a child, and it naturally formed the basis of her identity.

“I have always had that passion since I was a kid. I remember I was very into arts—drawing and learning musical instruments when I was younger,” Cheryl tells BEAUBIT. “But as I grew older, all of these were kind of left behind but I am glad I have finally stepped it up to get back to my creative roots.”

As much as she misses travelling, she believes the ongoing pandemic to be a blessing in disguise: “I came back to Singapore from Bali when the pandemic happened so that I could be close with family and friends. As crazy as 2020 was, it was the start of my new life. I have since been very involved creative-wise, especially with the content I’m creating and something I’ve been working on that I plan to launch in 2021.”

Cheryl’s everyday schedule consists of maintaining a good morning routine, which includes a perk-me-up coffee and 30-minute workout, followed by filming, shooting, editing and finding content ideas and inspiration. “Ever since the pandemic, I’ve also got into cooking so I often cook at home with my partner.”

Of course, with skin as clear and glowy as hers, we had to ask for her skincare routine. “I have pretty sensitive skin and I do get breakouts sometimes, especially PMS ones.”

“I keep my daily routine very simple: a gentle cleanser from Cetaphil, non-comedogenic hydrating cream from Tatcha, Burt’s Bees’ lip balm and Supergoop’s sunscreen. Some days, I will use my facial roller from Mount Lai to give a little face massage. At night, it’s pretty much the same but I skip the sunscreen and go for Pai Skincare’s face oil 3 to 4 times a week.”

Her favourite beauty products at the moment? Tatcha’s The Dewy Skin Cream and Burt’s Bees’ Lip Balm. “These two are my holy grail. The Tatcha cream never fails to make my skin look dewy so I often use it before makeup. As for the lip balm from Burt’s Bees, I once had super chapped lips and none of the lip balms I used helped me until I found this one from Burt’s Bees. I have never stopped using it since.”

“I’m also loving Ouai’s rose oil. I have long thick hair that I’ve never dyed before. I like to take good care of my hair and this oil from Ouai has been my go-to for smooth, frizz-free days.”

As for her future plans, Cheryl says she has big dreams to realise. “I want to have my own brand—my own clothing and beauty line that empowers women to love themselves for who they are and to find their own unique beauty.”

“Right now I am working on a project—which I plan to launch this year—with the intention to spread the message of self-love. It is so important for me to amplify this message to people, especially during these times.”

5 Questions with Cheryl

List five things people should know about you.

I’m much more easygoing and friendlier than I actually look. When it comes to my favourite food, you’d be surprised at how much I can eat! I’m quite a perceptive person so I can usually sense the moods of the people around me. I’m also a good listener—I’m usually the go-to person when my family or friends need someone to talk to. Lastly, I think I’ve got quite a talent for cooking!

No-makeup makeup, or actually no makeup?

I love experimenting with different kinds of makeup, it’s part of my creative outlet. I love how makeup can sometimes feel like a magical tool that transforms your face and seemingly give you a new identity. But on certain days, I do appreciate a minimal, natural and glowing look.

Name three beauty staples.

Ouai’s Rose Hair & Body Oil, Tatcha’s Dewy Skin Cream and Burt’s Bees’ Lip Balm.

Most important beauty rule?

Always hydrate and moisturise

Favourite beauty activity to indulge yourself in?

I love pampering myself with a whole head-to-toe beauty routine when I have the time: I’ll start with a full-body scrub from Aesop and Coco & Eve’s hair mask. For my face, I’ll use Glamglow’s mud mask and a good hydrating mask from AHC. And then I’ll finish up with a massage using my facial roller before going in with a moisturiser and face oil.
