BEAUTY AFTER BABIES: Fatiha Faulzi

While having a baby means she’s skipped a couple of steps in her skincare and makeup routine, Fatiha Faulzi (@fatihafaulzi) has since gained newfound methods to still look beautiful. We chat with the new mom and learn a surprising fact about those dreaded stretch marks.

We love that you’re still channelling your colourful outfits and creative ways of styling your hijab after becoming a new mom. How much time do you have now to get ready in the morning, in comparison to before?

When it’s just baby Anas and me, there are days when I literally go out barefaced and have a wrinkled scarf thrown over my head simply because I don’t have the luxury of time to completely get ready.

Of course, I’ve cut down a whole lot of makeup time (I no longer bother with eyeliner & mascara). Clothes-wise: most of my wardrobe staples are sets so I don’t have to think about matching tops & bottoms.

These days, I stick to the basics that do the job.

I stick to a face mist and moisturizer to keep my skin oil-free and supple throughout the day: my favourites are the ANIA Rose Immortelle Mist (SGD54) and the Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator (SGD75).

What are the beauty indulgences you miss the most?

I definitely miss my pedicures and waxing sessions! When I find a pocket of time to doll up before leaving home, I still enjoy a quick makeup look. The NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Cushion Foundation (SGD56) is an easy touch-and-go foundation. It sets a long-lasting base for the Fenty Beauty Match Stix Matte Skinstick (SGD39), which I use as a bronzer.

To define my eyebrows, I’m a loyal fan of Etude House’s Brow Pencil. I love playing with a fun eye look and love the Tartelette Flirt Eyeshadow Palette (SGD29). A good lipstick polishes off my entire look.

There are many tips on getting rid of stretch marks and post-pregnancy care. What are some methods you’ve taken?

Fortunately, I don’t have any stretch marks around my belly. However, I can’t say the same for my butt, back and inner thighs. But guess what? Without any intensive treatment products or miracle massage, they’ve faded. Rather unfortunate for my husband, but hey, it’s a woman’s world!

Do you have some wisdom to share with new moms who aren’t feeling as beautiful or comfortable with their post-baby appearance?

Be kind to yourself. You’ve just given birth to a baby and you need to give yourself time to heal, both physically and mentally. Nobody should make you feel pressured to bounce back any faster than at your own personal pace.

If it helps, talk to other mummy friends because they are the ones who understand everything. Additionally, rope in your husband or partner to take care of the baby. You can squeeze in a facial or massage, or simply some extra time to put on some makeup before going out.

He owes you that much!
