Beatrice Tan on Success & Her Favourite Eye Masks

Before Beatrice Tan founded local womenswear label Klarra in 2014, she was working in the finance industry.
“During my stint in the bank, I found it quite difficult to find quality, modern and chic smart-casual workwear at affordable prices. My colleagues and friends around me also had the same issue,” says Beatrice. “That was the triggering point and I decided to quit my bank job and start a fashion label.”
These days, the entrepreneur has her hands full running the label and being a mother to her baby girl, Aria. We caught up with Beatrice in her home as she shares her idea of success, where she seeks inspiration from and her favourite eye masks to combat dark eye circles. More, ahead.

What were some challenges you faced when starting out with the brand?
Finding a suitable factory was one of the biggest challenges at the start—it was difficult to find one that could match the quality and quantity. Sourcing was also a problem as most of the factories were based overseas and I was also new to the area. But thankfully, things worked out and we now have a few good factories that we work very closely with for production.
What is your idea of success?
It’s waking up each day feeling fulfilled and joyful. It’s being able to work on something I truly enjoy, am passionate about and can make a good career out of it.
Where are you seeking inspiration these days?
I used to get inspiration from my travels but with the pandemic, we haven’t been able to travel, so for now, I try to get my inspiration from my surroundings, but also especially from social media, Pinterest and magazines.
How would you describe your style?
I like something minimal and classic, with a little edge and dramatic flair.

Talk us through your favourite beauty products and your typical skincare ritual.
A typical skincare routine of mine would be to first remove my makeup with a makeup remover sheet before going in with a facial wash, followed up with toner, facial oil, serum, moisturiser and ending with an eye cream.
I love La Mer’s skincare, especially The Concentrate, The Eye Concentrate and the moisturiser. Some others that I’ve tried and worked well for me are: Sulwhashoo’s ginseng serum, Cle de Peau’s night cream and their eye mask too. For cleansers and scrubs, I’m a fan of the sugar scrub and soy cleanser from Fresh.

Are you a no-makeup makeup person, or actually no makeup?
I put very light makeup for work, but I do dress up with full-on makeup and explore different looks when I head out for events or special occasions.
What beauty product can’t you live without?
Probably concealer. I can live without foundation but I need my concealer daily due to my dark eye circles!
What are your favourite beauty rituals to treat yourself after a long day?
Definitely face masking. And it would even be better if it was accompanied by a massage!
What are your hopes for the year ahead?
I hope to thrive further in my career, for the company to grow and eventually, to be able to give back to others as well.
