Ann Lopez on Embracing Diversity & Natural Hair
Model Ann Lopez celebrates diversity with BEAUBIT. She shares advice on embracing your natural hair and the skin snacks inspired by her heritage.

Ann Lopez (@annavanticalopez) is no stranger to the modelling scene; the Singapore-Indian model was one of the contestants of The New Paper’s New Face 2017. Since then, she has modelled for Zalora, Laura Mercier and Indonesian brand Wearstatuquo. These days, she’s also a full-time university student and entrepreneur. The 22-year-old is the founder of the jewellery line Khara Online, which was named after her grandmother’s family name.
Ann talks to BEAUBIT about diversity, embracing your natural hair and the skin snacks inspired by her heritage.
What’s your story?
I was born and raised in Singapore. Since I’ve been exposed to various cultures from a young age, I am inspired by the beauty of diversity. I’m also really inquisitive by nature and I find joy in broadening my mind with new experiences. These cultural experiences and passion for creativity play a huge role in my work. I also enjoy sharing slices of fashion, beauty & culture that are rarely depicted in local media.
You’re managing a modelling career, on top of your sideline business. How do you find the time to pursue your interests?
Temper passion with wisdom. In this game of precision, it’s important to balance your passions, not just time.

How do you think women can cultivate that sense of self-love?
It all starts with you. Colourism has been so deeply ingrained in the fabrics of society that we have become infected by its presence. Self-love is unconditional, you give life to what you give energy to.
Diversity comes in many forms. What does it mean to you?
Diversity, to me, is the celebration of inclusivity. Inclusion is not just about bringing people to the table, but rather creating new spaces for them.
Society has enforced a certain ideal for women to have straight, long hair. What advice can you give to women to embrace their natural locks and to battle the need to conform to these ideals?
The most important relationship we can have is our relationship with ourselves. Give yourself the same care and attention you give to societal ideals; we owe the same love we give so freely to others.

Let’s talk about your beauty routine. What does it look like?
Having grown up with eczema, most of the beauty products I use are clean. I really do love a sensual scent and nourishing primer though, it makes me feel and look good while being oh-so-gentle to my skin.

What is your favourite beauty activity to treat yourself?
Gua sha massages—it hits the right sweet spots.
Are there any beauty tips you can share from your culture?
Turmeric. It’s not just a central spice in Indian culture, it’s an age-old healing tonic that has been part of beauty rituals and medicine.
“I drink a warm glass of turmeric latte daily—soy milk, a tablespoon of turmeric and a pinch of pepper.”
It’s a hand-me-down recipe from my family. This golden milk recipe has powerful anti-bacterial properties to not just feed your skin, but your overall health and mental well-being too.

What are your goals in the future? What are you working towards?
I’m deeply passionate about the communications and digital marketing landscape and am currently pursuing undergraduate studies in the same field. I aspire to continue working in this industry and create meaningful spaces for change.
